From high school classmates, to college roommates, to housemates in my young twenties, friends would surprisingly ask me every now and then, “How’s Aunt Ricky?”

It turns out that on the occasions I wasn’t home when she’d call to wish me a ‘HAPPY Birthday!’ sometimes my friends and Aunt Ricky would end up chatting for a while.

One such friend, a housemate Charlie in California, was surprised one random year to find a small birthday package from Aunt Ricky, with a card and some of the, newly-minted just that year, Minnesota quarters tucked away inside.

How she’d remembered his birthday, and a detail such as his home state of Minnesota, that was just an Aunt Ricky super power!

Aunt Ricky’s card was always the very first to arrive for a birthday, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, any holiday!
